Vocalist & Speech-Language Pathologist-to-be

Soprano, Lauren Stochl, is a senior at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, where she is completing two bachelor’s degrees in Music and Linguistics, and a minor in Speech Pathology. Lauren has studied voice under several teachers of singing- most recently, respected opera singer, Katherine Whyte. Under her guidance, Lauren applies what she learns as a Speech-Language Pathology student to her own singing, which has significantly furthered her success as a musician and has ignited a desire to rehabilitate singers and/or use music to help people reach their communication goals. After she graduates in the spring of 2021, Lauren plans to bring her passion for voice science to graduate school and earn a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She hopes to incorporate her love of singing into clinical practice by pursuing a specialty in voice. In addition to private voice lessons, Lauren has also spent many years singing in numerous choirs, receiving further vocal training from Dr. Christine Noel of the Rhode Island Children’s Choir and Dr. Jamie Hillman of the Gordon College Choir, amongst others. At Gordon College, she is a recipient of the Hannay Vocal Honors Scholarship and serves as choral assistant to Dr. Hillman. Lauren also travelled with CTI Music Ministries to Hong Kong, where she, along with a complete band, ministered to the people of the city through music and Gospel dramas. This trip sparked Lauren’s love of singing in a wide selection of languages- which she has been pursuing ever since, both within her study of linguistics and in her music-making. Lauren has experience tutoring and teaching English to young foreign language learners, as well as working collaboratively with fellow voice majors. She is a student member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
